After a scoreless first half, American was first on the board. Forward Nino Marcantonio scored off a rebound off the right post at the 63:21 mark. AU teammate Adam Rosen struck the left post and the ball bounded out to Marcantonio, who beat Red Storm keeper, Jeff Stoklosa (Newark, DE) for the score.
The Red Storm tied the match with just nine minutes remaining in regulation. Shalrie Joseph (Brooklyn, NY) netted his seventh goal of the season off a feed from Gorgui Mbaye (Jersey City, NJ) at the 80:36 mark.
Following the end of regulation, both teams played on for an additional 30 minutes of scoreless soccer, with American fighting off numerous St. Johns attacks to goal.
St. Johns held a 13-8 edge in shots and a 9-3 advantage in corner kicks. American goalie Michael Behonick stopped six shots, while Stoklosa made just one save.
The third-ranked Red Storm will meet #22 St. Louis at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday in the final day of the tournament.
