The Storm got off to a quick start, scoring the first seven points of the game. EOS Malbas then went on a 12-0 run to go up 12-7 at the 12:31 mark of the first half. EOS Malbas would not surrender that lead the rest of the half, and led 36-25 at the break. St. Johns shot just 25.0 percent from the floor in the first 20 minutes and could not capitalize on 12 EOS Malbas turnovers.
In the second half the Storms shooting woes continued. St. Johns managed to cut the lead to six at the 13:39 mark of the second half as senior Latasha Thompson (Newark, N.J./Bloomfield Tech) connected on the front-end of a one-and-one. EOS Malbas answered on the next possession on a three-pointer by Tine Freil and from there, St. Johns was held in check. Freil finished with a double-double, tallying 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Percy was one of three players on the EOS Malbas squad in double figures on the night as the Swedes shot 41.5 percent from the floor, compared to a subpar 25.4 percent by the Storm. Junior Rasheedah Brown (Newark, N.J./Independence CC) led the Storm for the second straight game with a game-high 16 points. She was one of three SJU players in double digits as seniors Thompson and Tynisha Myles (Paterson, N.J./Paterson Catholic) added 11 and 10, respectively.
The Storm outrebounded EOS Malbas on the offensive boards, 21-10, and forced 26 turnovers in the losing effort.
St. Johns opens the regular season on Friday, November 17 when they host St. Francis (N.Y.) in a non-conference game in Alumni Hall. Tip-off is set for 7:30.
