The schedule is highlighted by 20 home games at the Ballpark at St. Johns University, including BIG EAST Conference games against Connecticut, Boston College and Notre Dame.
During its seven-game road trip to start the season, St. Johns will face the College of Charleston three times, Charleston Southern three times and play one game against The Citadel. Following that trip, the Red Storm will return to the South on March 2 to play Vanderbilt at the Troy State Classic in Dothan, Alabama. SJU will also play host Troy State and Purdue in the tournament. On March 10-11, St. Johns will play a three-game series at James Madison in Harrisonburg, Virginia.
Weve got a young team and theyll face some challenges, Blankmeyer, entering his sixth year at the helm, said. The good thing for this team is weve got a lot of time to play at home. Having our own home field will provide a bigger comfort level for this team.
Last year, the Red Storm, due to construction of a field for the Class A Queens Kings of the New York Penn League, were forced to play home games at three different sites.
St. Johns should be led this season by senior catcher Eric Potts (Little Ferry, N.J./Ridgefield Park), senior first baseman Chris Fallon (Bayonne, N.J./Bayonne) and junior centerfielder Charlie Bilezikjian (Staten Island, N.Y./Port Richmond).
The schedule also includes home games against local rivals Columbia, Iona, C.W. Post, St. Peters, Stony Brook, St. Francis, Long Island, Fordham, Hofstra, Pace, Manhattan and New York Tech.
St. Johns first home weekend will be played on March 17-18, when the Red Storm play host to BIG EAST rival Connecticut in a three-game series.
