RED STORM DOWN DARTMOUTH, 63-53
12/30/2000 12:00:00 AM | Women's Basketball
The win evens the Red Storm's record at 5-5, while the Big Green fell to 1-9.
SJU set a new Dartmouth Classic record with nine three-point field goals, eclipsing the previous mark of eight set by William & Mary in 1992. Junior Rasheedah Brown (Newark, N.J.) was perfect from behind the arc, drilling four-of-four long range shots. Senior Latasha Thompson (Newark, N.J.) drained three-of-five, and freshman Sherri Brown (Willingboro, N.J.) hit two-of-four from downtown.
The Red Storm never trailed in the game and built a sizeable lead early on. Up 5-4 in the opening minutes, the Red Storm went on a remarkable 20-5 run to extend their lead to 25-9 with 5:00 remaining in the half. The Big Green tried to inch their way back into it, but the Red Storm maintained a 10-point edge heading into the lockerroom (27-17).
Dartmouth would get no closer than eight the rest of the way, as the Red Storm cruised to the 10-point victory.
R. Brown led the Red Storm in scoring for the third straight game with 15 points, marking the tenth straight game she has netted double figures. She was also voted to the Dartmouth Classic all-tournament team, for tallying 33 points, eight rebounds and eight assists in two games. Thompson added 13 points and five rebounds, while S. Brown chipped in 10 points and a team-high six rebounds.
The Red Storm will open BIG EAST action on Tuesday, January 2 when they host Boston College at 7:30 in Alumni Hall.
