RUTGERS SOFTBALL DROPS TWO TO ST. JOHN'S

PISCATAWAY, NJ (APRIL 1, 2000) - The Rutgers University Softball team (9-8; 0-2) fell to St. John's (16-14; 2-0), 6-0, 4-2, in BIG EAST play today at the Rutgers Athletic Complex. With the losses, Rutgers falls to 0-2 in the BIG EAST, while St. John's improves to 2-0. Collecting three hits in six at-bats today, senior outfielder Danielle Dolbow (Pennsville, NJ) continues her hot hitting raising her team-leading batting average to .405.
Red Storm pitcher Gina Calabrese picked up victories on both games for St. John's tossing two complete games. In game one, Calabrese tossed a three hitter en-route to the 6-0 victory, while Rutgers freshman pitcher Andria Koehler (Sellersville, PA) surrendered 15 hits and six runs (five earned) in the loss, while dropping her second consecutive decision.
In game two of the doubleheader, Rutgers mustered just five hits and two runs (one earned) against Calabresein the 4-2 defeat. Scarlet Knight freshman pitcher Leah Black (Rocky River, OH) continued her stellar pitching giving up no earned runs and no walks, while striking out six in the defeat. After today's contest, Black (5-4) lowered her team-leading ERA to a miniscule 0.34. Senior Debbie DeJong (Medford, NJ) clobbered her second home run of the season over the left field fence in the bottom of the first inning and finished the game with two hits in three at-bats.
The Scarlet Knights return to action tomorrow, April 2, as they host in-state and BIG EAST rival Seton Hall beginning at noon.
