HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. - On April 6, St. John's (16-17, 2-2) was on the road to face the Flying Dutchwomen of Hofstra University (19-14) in a non-conference match-up. Hofstra came out on top, winning by a score of 3-1. The Red Storm took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning on an unearned run. Junior Jeanine Giammarino led off the inning with a single. Senior Susan D'Ambrosio pinch-ran for Giammarino at first and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by sophomore Amy Crook. D'Ambrosio reached third on a passed ball. With two outs, sophomore Lisa Tropea reached base on an error, giving enough time for D'Ambrosio to score. Hofstra answered back in the bottom of the third inning with two runs and added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth. Despite striking out five, junior Gina Calabrese's record fell to 12-8. St. John's gets back to BIG EAST action this weekend as they face Boston College on April 8 and the University of Connecticut on April 9.
