St. John's Softball Splits Against Boston College

Uniondale, NY - The Red Storm (17-18, 3-3) opened up a four game home-stand today against the Eagles of Boston College (5-12, 1-1) at Mitchel Field, Uniondale, NY. In the first game of a double-header, Boston College defeated St. John's 6-1. In the first inning, the Red Storm collected their only run of the game. Sophomore Lisa Tropea led off the game with a single. Freshman Alesha Argeras reached base on an error by shortstop Cara Blumfield, advancing Tropea to second. Sophomore Tiffany Howerton advanced the runners with a sacrifice bunt. BC's Kim Ryan then walked both sophomore Marilyn Brown and freshman Jessica Shepherd to allow the only Red Storm run of the game. Ryan then retired the next 15 batters for the complete game victory. Boston College did their damage in the third inning with three homeruns. Blumfield and Anne Marie Ambros led off the inning with back-to-back homeruns. Two batters later, Chris Vicari hit the third home-run of the inning for a 3-1 lead. Boston College scored two more runs in the fifth inning and added their sixth run in the seventh inning. In the night-cap, St. John's defeated Boston College, 3 -1. Lisa Tropea led off the game with a double to left field and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Alesha Argeras. Tiffany Howerton followed with a walk. Sophomore Ann Raab put her team on the board with a three run homerun over the left field fence. In the second inning, the Eagles managed to get one back on a double by Summer Jarratt scoring Lauren Fischetti. Freshman Courtney Fitzgerald pitched a complete game to improve her record to 5-8.
