Sherri Brown (Willingboro, N.J./Willingboro), a 5-9 guard, leaves Willingboro as the all-time leading scorer with 1,554 career points. Last year, the captain averaged 14.3 points, 6.9 rebounds, 2.9 steals and 1.9 assists per game. She was named to All-South Jersey First Team ('99, '00), all-county first team ('99, '00), all-state second team ('00) and NJSCA North-South All-State Team ('00). Off the court, Brown is an outstanding student-athlete. She carries a 3.6 GPA and her class rank was 14 out of 310. In addition, she was a member of the National Honor Society, the University of Medicine and Dentistry Scholars Program and made the Academic Honor Roll four years in a row.
Also joining the St. John's program will be Rasheedah Brown (Newark, N.J./Independence [Mo] CC/Malcom X Shabazz [N.J.]), a 5-6 guard, who led Independence CC to a 27-4 record and the conference championship. Last season, she averaged 10.4 points, 5.2 assists, 4.6 rebounds and 2.7 steals per game. At Malcom X Shabazz, she was named first team all-county and first team all-city. Brown was also an All State Group 3 KICCC All-Conference Player.
Sladjana Cvijetic (Belgrade, Yugoslavia/LaBelle [Fla.]), a 6-2 forward/center, was named to the Southwest Florida All-Star Team, and a member of the Yugoslavian Cadet Team. As a senior, she averaged 12 points and 11 rebounds per game. Cvijetic led LaBelle HS to two gold medals and two community silver medals. She also lettered in cross country at LaBelle.
Kenyawna Hudgens (Washington, D.C./North Idaho), saw action in 30 games last season at North Idaho, averaging 2.2 points and 1.5 rebounds. Her team posted a 17-14, tied for sixth in Scenic West Athletic Conference. She also had 13 assists and 17 steals. At Anacostia High School, Hudgens was a two-time all-DCIAA team and was selected as both a DCIAA all-star and a Doc Mathis all-star. She averaged 14 points, four rebounds, eight assists as a senior.
Additionally, Shemika Stevens (New York, N.Y./A. Philip Randolph HS) has committed to attend St. John's University in the 2000-01 academic year. Though Stevens is a non-qualifier for this season, Coach Estep is confident that she will be eleigible for next season.
Stevens has earned numerous athletic awards throughout her career, including first team all-city recognition this past year. Most recently, Stevens received the Pegasus Award, given to the Public School Athletic League's top high school female basketball player. Last month, she was awarded the Diane Brennan Outstanding Player Award.
Stevens was selected to the Slam Jam all-tournament team two years in a row and, in 1997, was the Slam Jam's Most Valuable Player. As a junior, she was honored with the Yogi Award, given to the top point guard, and as a sophomore, she earned the Ray Diaz sportsmanship award.
