WOMEN'S SOCCER PICKED FIFTH IN PRESEASON POLL

Connecticut was selected to defend its Northeast Division title, while conference champion Notre Dame was the unanimous selection to repeat as Mid-Atlantic Division champion.
Though the Storm did not enjoy a great deal of success in divisional play, St. John's did win the Maine Black Bear Invitational crown and was the ECAC Tournament runner-up in 1999, posting a 10-6-3 overall record. SJU returns 19 letterwinners from that squad, including nine starters. Junior Marissa Stork (Flushing, N.Y.) and senior Jaime Clark (Massapequa, N.Y.) will lead the potent Storm offense again this season. Stork and Clark combined for 14 goals and 15 assists in 1999. The Storm also boast three veteran goalkeepers, including sophomore Tina Fogg (Warwick, R.I.) who was named to the Northeast Region all-freshman team by Soccer Buzz Magazine last year.
The women's soccer team opens the 2000 season at DaSilva Memorial Field on Tuesday, August 29, hosting Fordham at 7:00 p.m.
