Flames Stop Red Storm, 65-52

Junior transfer Creasie Fowler (Milwaukee, Wis.) led the Red Storm attack with a team-high 14 points. Fowler got SJU on the board, and helped keep the game close in the first half. On the night, Fowler would record three blocks and pull down six rebounds.
The Red Storm also saw consistent efforts from four other players, who each notched eight points. Freshman Patrycja Gulak (Olsztyn, Poland) put up eight points and grabbed a team-high seven boards. Gulak also contributed with team-highs in steals (three) and assists (four). Sophomore newcomer Shemika Stevens (New York, N.Y.) added two steals, two assists and eight points. Sophomore Sherri Brown (Willingboro, N.J.) put the Red Storm within five with two consecutive jumpers in the first half. S. Brown had with eight points in the first half. Freshman Mary Pat Statler (New Cumberland, W.Va.) recorded her first collegiate points with two free throws. Later in the second half, Statler drained two back-to-back threes to give her eight points on the night.
SJU played tough defense throughout the game, grabbing 32 rebounds. Senior Kenyawna Hudgens (Washington, D.C.) was the teams other high-rebounder, pulling down six defensive rebounds.
St. Johns shot 36.0 percent to UICs 47.0 percent from the floor.
The Red Storm return to action on Friday, November 23rd in the St. Johns Thanksgiving Classic at Alumni Hall. The first day of action will start with Fordham University taking on the University of San Diego at 4:00 pm, followed by SJU versus Hofstra University at 6:15 pm. The Classic will continue on Saturday, November 24 at 4:00pm with the consolation game, followed by the championship game at 6:15 pm.
