Red Storm Stopped by Seawolves, 65-51

Stony Brook jumped out to an early lead, going on a 15-4 run, in the first five minutes of play. The Red Storm made their move in the final 6:40 of the first half, outscoring the Seawolves 14-12. R. Brown had 14 in the half, including seven of SJUs final 14. Stony Brooks Erika Shipley had 13 and Sherry Jordan put up 11, to give the Seawolves the 38-24 advantage at the break.
R. Brown started a Red Storm run at 7:46 remaining with a layup, followed by a free throw. Freshman Patrycja Gulaks (Olsytzn, Poland) jumper pulled St. Johns within seven. R. Brown would then record her final points of the night, two free throws, to put the score at 47-52. The Red Storm were unable to get any closer on the night. St. Johns would cut the lead to eight at 51-59, on two field goals by Gulak, but it wouldnt be enough. Stony Brook added six points in the final minute, to take the game at 65-51.
Gulak would finish with 18 points and a team-high eight rebounds, including a game-high five offensive boards. R. Brown added seven rebounds to her 23 point effort. Sophomore Shemika Stevens (New York, N.Y.) would chip in an all-around performance, notching five points, four boards, four assists and three steals.
Stony Brooks Jordan recorded a double-double with 19 points and 15 rebounds. Shipley also added 19 points in the Seawolves win.
Stony Brook outrebounded the Red Storm, 45-26, and shot 15-for-19 from the free throw line. St. Johns shot 13 of 21 from the charity stripe, for 61.9 percent, a season-low.
The Red Storm will play the New York Gazelles on Wednesday, December 19 in Alumni Hall before breaking for the holidays. Tipoff for the exhibition game is slated for 7:30 pm
