SOFTBALL DROPS 1-0 DECISION TO EASTERN KENTUCKY

The Colonels got all the offense they would need in the top of the second. Ann Herrington hit a double into right center and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Ashley Totten. With two out, Megan Mills reached on an error by shortstop Jessica Shepherd (Akron, OH/Ellet), scoring Herrington.
St. Johns mustered just three hits in seven innings, but posed their biggest threat in the bottom of the sixth inning. Lauren Fisher (East Rockaway, NY/East Rockaway) led off the inning with a single to left field and advanced to second on a botched fielders choice, with a throwing error by the third baseman. Shepherd popped out to second and Tiffany Howerton (Escondido, CA/Escondido) flew out to right before Kelly Houghton (Millsboro, DE/Briarcliffe CC) drew a walk to load the bases. However, the threat was over when Ann Raab (Freehold, NJ/Allentown) hit into a fielders choice, forcing out Houghton at second.
Gina Calabrese suffered her second loss of the season. She pitched a complete game, allowing the one run (unearned) on four hits and striking out three.
The Red Storm will have a day off on Monday and will then continue on their spring trip, facing Campbell at 2:00 p.m. on February 20th.
