St. John's Eliminated from GSU Tournament

In the bottom of the second inning, the Red Storm opened up scoring when Ann Raab (Freehold, NJ/Allentown) doubled to right center. Next batter up Danielle Sweeney (Bellerose, NY/ Mary Louis Academy) grounded out to third base a sacrifice bunt that allowed Raab to advance to third. Jessica Shepherd (Akron, OH/Ellet) recorded the RBI when she doubled to left field and Raab scored.
SJU did it again at the bottom of the fifth when Lisa Tropea (Oceanside, NY/Oceanside) reached on an error by the second baseman. Lauren Fisher (East Rockaway, NY/East Rockaway) then singled to shortstop and Tropea advanced to second base when Tiffany Howerton (Escondido, CA/ Escondido) grounded out to the pitcher, Fisher advanced to second and Tropea advanced to third. Raab recorded the second RBI for SJU when she grounded out to second base. Fisher advanced to third and Tropea scored on a passed ball.
The Mercer College Bears tied the Red Storm at the top of the sixth when Erin Jalbert doubled to right field. Nikki Bowery had one RBI when she singled and then advanced to second on the throw and Jalbert scored. Stacy Nagel reached on a fielders choice and Bowery advanced to third on an error by the second baseman. At that point, Brittany Drake entered the game as the pinch runner for Bowery. Kristi Montgomery recorded the RBI when she grounded out to second base. Nagel advanced to second and Drake scored. This brought the score to 2-2.
In the last inning of the game, the Bears came out first when Stephanie Monroe singled to left field. Melissa Lett singled to right field and Monroe advanced to second. Both Lett and Monroe then advance one base on a passed ball. With two runners on, Jalbert recorded three RBIs when she hit a homerun to center field. This brought the final score to 5-2 and St. Johns overall record to 10-14.
Due to this loss, SJU was eliminated from the GSU Tournament. Mercer College moved on to play Furman College for the third place position.
St. Johns will play a single game against Hofstra University on March 17th at noon.
