Amanda Hallaway of Hofstra hit an RBI double with none out in the bottom of the seventh to give Hofstra the victory.
The Red Storm opened scoring in the top of the second when Kelly Houghton (Millsboro, Del./Briarcliffe C,C.) slammed her sixth homerun of the season to left field for the 1-0 lead. However, the Red Storm could not hold on as the Pride scored twice in their half of the inning to take the 2-1 lead.
In the top of the fourth, St. Johns added one more run. Ann Raab (Freehold, N.J./Allentown) drilled a one-out double to right field and came around to score as Jessica Shepherd (Akron, Ohio/Ellet) reached on an error. But that was all the offense the Red Storm could muster, as they were held to just three hits in seven innings.
Courtney Fitzgerald (Bellerose, N.Y./The Mary Louis Academy) took the loss for the Red Storm after throwing 4.2 innings of relief of freshman starter Kate Cucciniello (Humble, Texas/Humble). Fitzgerald allowed one run on six hits while striking out three.
The Red Storm returns to action Tuesday, as they travel to New Haven, Conn. to take on Yale at 1:00 p.m. St. John's contest against Sacred Heart was postponed from Sunday March 18 to Tuesday April 3 at 3:00.
