In the first game, Syracuse's Taylor Petersen did not allow a hit until the top half of the fifth inning. She struck out four and walked two to earn her first career victory.
Syracuse put the game away in the top half of the fifth, scoring nine unearned runs.
St. John's scored an unearned run in the bottom of the fifth. Senior Kelly Houghton (Millsboro, Del.) singled and moved to second on a wild pitch. A Syracuse throwing error allowed Houghton to come around to score the Red Storm's first run of the season.
Freshman Meghan Allman (San Diego, Calif.) gave up all 11 runs, but only one was earned. She allowed eight hits, struck out two and walked five.
Allman started her third straight game for the Red Storm vs. Maryland. In six innings, Allman gave up four hits, four runs, two of which were unearned, and seven walks. She held the Terrapins hitless until the third, before giving up a single to Maryland's Pickeral.
The Red Storm got the first hit of the night when senior Tiffany Howerton (Escondido, Calif.) singled with two out and advanced senior Lisa Tropea (Oceanside, N.Y.), who got on with a walk, to third. Freshman Allina Sainz (San Diego, Calif.) flied out to end the inning.
St. John's made one last threat in the bottom of the seventh, when freshman Jillian Sandoval (Orange, Calif.) led off the inning with a single up the middle. Sandoval advanced to second on Houghton's ground out to second and moved to third on a wild pitch. The inning would end on a ground out to third, stranding Sandoval on third.
The Red Storm play their final game of the Seminole Classic tomorrow versus host Florida State at 4 p.m.
