SJU Softball Earns First Win of Season

Greenville, N.C. - The St. John's University softball team earned their first victory of the season with a 4-3 extra innings win over Towson University. Freshman Meghan Allman earned her first career victory, giving up just four hits on the day.

Heading into the bottom of the seventh, the Red Storm trailed 3-1. SJU scored two in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game at 3 and send it to extra innings. The Tigers were held scoreless in the top of the eighth. The Red Storm knocked in the winning run in the bottom of the eighth, to beat Towson, 4-3.

In the afternoon game, Temple University shut out the Red Storm, 8-0. The Owls scored five in the second and added three more in the fourth to seal the win. Temple's Bari Pflueger gave up just three hits in seven innings. Allman took the loss for SJU.

The ECU Pirate Classic continues tomorrow, when the Red Storm (1-8) battle Canisius at 11 am.
