The media guides for mens soccer and mens basketball received honors, both nationally and regionally.
The media guide for the 2001 Final Four participant and BIG EAST Championship mens soccer team was rated fifth in the country by the CoSIDA panel. The book was edited by Assistant Director of Media Relations Mike Mex Carey, with assistance from Dominic Scianna and Allison Rubin.
The media guide for the mens basketball team was rated first in District I, and was ranked 10th nationally. The book was edited by Associate Athletic Director for Communications Dominic Scianna and Carey, with assistance from Rubin.
The sports information staff at St. Johns has won numerous citations of merit in the last six years. The office received two Best Cover in the Nation awards, first for mens basketball in 1997, and then for womens soccer in 1999. The 1999 mens soccer media guide was also lauded for best content and layout in the nation in 2000, and the mens basketball media guide was rated ninth in the country in 1999, while the baseball media guide was tabbed as the best in the district in 2001.
