Boston College Sweeps Softball Doubleheader

In game two, senior Ann Raab (Freehold, N.J.) led off fifth inning with a single up the middle. Senior Kelly Houghton (Millsboro, Del.) reached on a throwing error by the BC pitcher and senior Marilyn Brown (Bronx, N.Y.) walked to load the bases. Senior Alesha Argeras (Warren, Ohio) hit into a fielders choice on the next play and Raab was caught at home. With the bases still loaded, junior Jessica Shepherd (Akron, Ohio) singled to the left side of the infield, driving in two runs.
The Red Storm took a 2-1 lead into the bottom of the fifth inning, but Boston College would score three in its at-bat. Erin Mackey singled up the middle and Elyse Meredith reached on a Red Storm error to get the inning started. Lisa Field drove in Mackey with a fielders choice and Meredith scored on a single by Jacqui Goodchild. Field would come around to score on a single through the left side by Michelle Daly. The Eagles recorded three runs on three hits and one error for the 4-2 lead after five complete.
Houghton led off the top of the seventh inning by lofting a shot over the left fielders head for her second home run of the year, pulling the Red Storm to within one. But, it wouldnt be enough, St. Johns would fall 4-3 to the Eagles.
In game one, Boston College scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth for the 2-0 win. BCs Lisa Field doubled to left field and Jen Asbury singled to drive Field in from third. The Eagles added another run when Erin Mackey doubled to left field sending Asbury home.
In the top of the seventh inning, two batters reached base for the Red Storm. Tiffany Howerton led off the inning with an infield single and Kelly Houghton reached on a two-out walk. But, the Eagles Ryan would record three strikeouts to end the game.
BCs Kim Ryan threw a three-hit shutout with four strikeouts and one walk. For the Red Storm, Allman allowed two earned runs on five hits, while walking one, hitting two batters and striking out four.
The Red Storm return to action on Tuesday, April 16 at 3pm when they take on the Red Foxes of Marist College at Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
