St. John's (22-31-1) took the first lead of the opening game in the fourth inning as senior Kelly Houghton (Millsboro, Del.) connected on her sixth home run of the season, a two-run shot over the fence in left center field to drive in freshman Jillian Sandoval (Orange, Calif.), who reached on an infield error.
The Red Storm tacked on two insurance runs in the seventh inning as freshman Allina Sainz (San Diego, Calif.) led off with a single to left field, and later scored on a sacrifice fly to deep center field by junior Alesha Argeras (Warren, Ohio). Junior Jessica Cameron (Girard, Ohio) crossed the plate later in the inning after a bunt by junior Jessica Shepherd (Akron, Ohio) was overthrown at first base.
Freshman Meghan Allman (San Diego, Calif.) upped her record to 21-27 on the season as she allowed just one hit, a leadoff double by Lauren Hahn in the third inning, while striking out eight batters in a complete-game effort. Jennifer Hurley suffered the loss as she allowed an earned run on four hits.
The Red Storm capitalized on another Lady Flames miscue in the second game as an infield throwing error extended the third inning, allowing Houghton to drive in Argeras and Shephard with a single to left field and jump out to a 2-0 lead.
Liberty (24-33) cut the lead to one in the third as Amanda Maska connected on her second solo home run in as many days with a shot to left field. The Lady Flames tied the game in the fourth as Tiffany Carp's RBI single up the middle scored Allison Terry, who reached on a single herself.
However, the Red Storm opened the game up in the fifth inning as they plated five runs on four hits, highlighted by a three-RBI double by Sainz. The game was called due to lightning and rain in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Cameron picked up her second victory of the season in relief as she allowed one run on two hits in two innings of work after Allman started the game and surrendered a run on one hit. Ali Thompson took the loss as she allowed six earned runs on eight hits in six innings of work.
