Student-athletes must have a grade-point average of at least 3.2 to be considered for the award. Members of the team are now advanced to the national ballot.
Seniors Charlie Bilezikjian (Staten Island, N.Y.)>/b>, Brian Dorsey (Smithtown, N.Y.) and Jason Kane (Rutherford, N.J.) earned first-team honors, the most of any school.
Bilezikjian, a centerfielder, leads the Red Storm in nearly every offensive category. He tops the team in batting with a .358 average, and leads the squad in runs (41), triples (3), home runs (11), RBI (45), total bases (103), slugging percentage (.682), walks (38) and on-base percentage (.490). Bilezikjian, a preseason All-BIG EAST selection, also has been a key member of the Red Storm pitching rotation, posting a 3-6 record with a 4.91 earned run average. The senior will graduate ranking among the top-10 in 11 different offensive categories at St. Johns. An education major, he maintains a 3.89 grade-point average, and has earned a 4.0 six times.
Dorsey transferred to St. Johns from Briarcliffe Community College last year and was used mainly as reliever during his junior season. This year, he has moved into the starting rotation and is tied for the team lead in wins, carrying a 5-2 record, with a 4.50 earned run average. He threw a complete game three-hitter in a 2-1 win over BIG EAST rival Virginia Tech, and hurled a one-hitter against St. Francis (N.Y.) earlier this season. A sports management major, he maintains a 3.43 grade-point average.
Kane has been a starter at third base since his freshman year and is among the teams top offensive players. He currently ranks third on the team in batting with a .339 average, and leads the team in at-bats (165) and hits (56). His team-leading 17 doubles are tied for the fourth-best in a single season at St. Johns. A sports management major, he maintains a 3.28 grade-point average.
The Red Storm (24-20, 10-10 BIG EAST) return to play on Saturday, hosting conference rival Seton Hall (23-23, 9-11) in a doubleheader at The Ballpark. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
