Retts Weekend Recognized by Soccer America and Soccer Buzz

JAMAICA, N.Y. For the second straight week, a member of the St. Johns University womens soccer team has been honored by Soccer America and Soccer Buzz. For the week of September 16-22, junior defender Courtney Rett (Valley Stream, N.Y.) was named to Soccer Americas and Soccer Buzzs Elite Team of the Week.

Rett took control of the Red Storms two conference games last weekend, as they defeated Providence, 2-1 and shut out Syracuse, 2-0. With St. Johns trailing 1-0 to Providence, Coach Stone asked Rett to move up into the front, hoping to produce more scoring opportunities. This change resulted in Rett scoring her first collegiate goal to tie the game and later on assisting on junior Claudia Rubinos (Montreal North) game winner. Rett continued her outstanding weekend as she netted the game-winning goal and anchored the Red Storm defense to a shutout at Syracuse.

The Red Storm (5-1-3) return to action on Tuesday, October 1 with a non-confernece game at Stony Brook.
