Seton Hall Shuts Down St. Johns, 66-41

Four points apiece by Rainey (Los Angeles, Calif.) and junior Kati Kurtosi (Miskolc, Hungary) gave St. Johns the 13-6 lead over the first six minutes of the game. From that point, Seton Hall outscored the Red Storm 17 to four to close the half with a six-point advantage. The Pirates Monica Johnson tied the game at 16 at the 7:35 mark. The Seton Hall defense allowed just one St. Johns point over the final 9:54 of the first half, for the 23-17 lead.
Seton Hall continued to build its lead in the second half, posting 43 points to the Red Storms 24. For the Pirates, Leslie Ardon scored a game-high 16 points and recorded three blocked shots. Johnson finished the game with 15 and a game-high three steals.
Rainey posted 11 points and 10 rebounds, despite playing just 28 minutes after leaving the game with an injury at 7:49 remaining. Kurtosi added 10 points on five of seven shooting and eight rebounds.
St. Johns grabbed 43 rebounds, tying a season-high, while Seton Hall had just 27 boards.
The Red Storm return to action on Tuesday, January 14 at 7:30 pm when they host No. 16 Notre Dame.
