Red Storm Fall to Pittsburgh, 75-51

Pittsburgh jumped out to a 10-2 lead to open the game, spurred by two threes by Jessica Allen. A three-pointer by junior Shemika Stevens (New York, N.Y.) followed by a three-point play by junior Crystal Andrews (West Bloomfield, Mich.) cut the Panthers lead to seven (20-13). Pitt held the Red Storm scoreless over the final 4:34 of the half. During the last 3:06 of the half the Panthers went on a 12-0 run to take a 37-18 advantage into the break.
The Panthers, who had four players record points in double-figures, stretched their lead to as much as 35 points (60-25)in the second half, before cruising to the 25-point victory. Pittsburgh outscored the Red Storm just 38 to 33 during the final 20 minutes of play.
Stevens finished with a team-high 12 points, connecting on 7-of-8 from the foul line. She also added three assists, three steals and three rebounds.
Sophomore Patrycja Gulak (Olsztyn, Poland) notched 10 points and a game-high eight boards. Freshman Dana Petersen (Staten Island, N.Y.) grabbed a season-high seven boards as the Red Storm outrebounded the Panthers, 32 -24.
Haley Harguth led all scorers with a season-high 20 points for Pittsburgh. She connected on 5-of-8 3-pointers and also added four steals. Mandy Wittenmyer added 14 points while Laine Selwyn and Latoya Kincaid each pitched in 11 points. Selwyn also tallied eight rebounds, six assists and three steals.
The Red Storm return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 21 when they travel to Providence to take on the Friars. Tipoff is slated for 7:30 pm.
