In game one, St. Johns used a late inning rally to knot the game at 2-2, before Loyola Marymount scored the deciding run in the bottom of the seventh. A clutch single off the bat of freshman Megan Oliver (Endicott, N.Y.) drove in senior Alesha Argeras (Warren, Ohio) and sophomore Allina Sainz (San Diego, Calif.) to tie the game for St. Johns. In the bottom of the seventh, LMU answered back with an RBI single from Sami Strinz, which persevered the win for the Lions. Senior Courtney Fitzgerald (Bellerose, N.Y.) took the loss for St. Johns going 6 1/3 innings, allowing three runs on seven hits, with four strikeouts to drop her record to 4-3.
In game two, Loyola jumped out to an early five run lead that the Red Storm could never overcome. Freshman Melanie Lehman (Placerville, Calif.) was the pitcher of record for St. Johns, going five innings, giving up five runs on seven hits. Freshmen Jessica Marical (Stanton, Calif.) and Oliver both went 1 for 2 with singles in the loss.
The St. Johns softball team returns to action tomorrow, March 1, when they compete against the University of San Diego in a doubleheader, starting at 10 am, on the second day of the LMU Tournament.
