St. John's Falls To Miami

Miami connected on 51.7 percent of their first half shots to go into the break with a 43-19 advantage. Tamara James, Chanivia Broussard and Meghan Saake each posted double-figures in the first 20 minutes. Junior Nora Gyuris (Pecs, Hungary) led St. Johns in the first half with five points, including her first three-point field goal of the year.
The Red Storm shot 45.2% in the second half and held the Hurricanes to 35.3 to close the gap. With 7:54 remaining the Hurricanes held their largest lead of the game at 31. From that point, the Red Storm outscored the Hurricanes 23-to-7 the rest of the way. Junior Shemika Stevens (New York, N.Y.) led the Red Storm's final charge with eight points and four rebounds. Freshman Dana Petersen (Staten Island, N.Y.) scored six of her seven points over the final 5:21 of the game.
Stevens led the Red Storm with 14 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Junior Reka Szavuly (Miskolc, Hungary) also notched double-figures with 10, including three three's.
In her first career start, Petersen finished with seven points, three boards, two assists and the teams only block. Sophomore Patrycja Gulak (Olsztyn, Poland) recorded eight points, all in the second half, and seven rebounds.
For Miami, James had a game-high 18 points on 8-13 shooting. Broussard finished with 16, while Saake notched 11.
The Red Storm outrebounded the Hurricanes, 41 to 39. Meanwhile, Miami forced 32 St. John's turnovers and recorded 18 steals.
The Red Storm return to action on Wednesday, February 12 when they travel to Soutn Bend, Ind. to face Notre Dame. Tipoff is slated for 7:00 pm.
