Georgetown opened a 10-0 lead to start the first half before Stevens hit a three followed by a layup in traffic to put the Red Storm on the board. With 10:16 to play, Georgetown had 24-9 lead with all nine of St. Johns points coming from Stevens. A three by junior Reka Szavuly (Miskolc, Hungary) pulled the Red Storm to within 11. Carmen Bruce nailed her third shot from behind the arc to give the Hoyas their largest lead of the half at 16. SJU responded with five consecutive points, including a banked in three by junior Angie Leung (Richmond Hill, N.Y.). Georgetown built its lead back to 16 with two minutes to play on a Zsuzsanna Horvath jumper. The Red Storm closed the half with a three-point play by Szavuly to trail 36-25 at the break.
Off to a quick start in the second half, the Hoyas had a 20-point lead (53-33) with 8:56 remaining after a three-point play by Leslie Tyburski. The Red Storm allowed just one Georgetown basket over the next two minutes, while they scored nine. Szavuly got fouled on a made three and hit the free throw to complete the four-point play. Stevens nailed a three to pull St. Johns within 10, the closest they had been since 15:35 of the first half. The Red Storm would not get any closer, as Georgetown took the game, 67-52.
Stevens 26 points came on 8-of-23 shooting from the field and an 8-of-8 effort from the line. She added three rebounds, three assists and two steals in 35 minutes of action.
Szavuly recorded 11 points for the Red Storm, including two threes, four boards and four steals. In her first start of the year, Leung played all 40 minutes and notched five points and two assists. Senior Creasie Fowler (Milwaukee, Wis.) grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.
