Softball Splits Games; Beats Michigan State 3-0

In the opener against Michigan State, the Red Storm used a three run fourth inning to hand the Spartans their fifth loss of the season. Freshmen Jessica Marical (Stanton, Calif.) and Linda Reyes (Garden Grove, Calif.) lead the offensive attack for St. Johns, each going 2 for 3 with an RBI. Senior Courtney Fitzgerald (Bellerose, N.Y.) earned her ninth win of the season in the circle for the Red Storm, going seven innings and scattering three hits. Over her last 29.1 innings pitched Fitzgerald has not allowed an earned run, a streak that has spanned her last four games.
Against East Tennessee State, the Red Storm out hit the Bucs 6-4, but was unable to score a run. ETSU scored a run in the bottom of the third and another in the fifth to seal the victory. Seniors Jessica Shepherd (Akron, Ohio) and Alesha Argeras (Warren, Ohio) each went 1 for 3 in the game for St. Johns. In her first start of the season, sophomore Meghan Allman (San Diego, Calif.) took the loss for the Red Storm going 2 1/3 innings, giving up one run on one hit.
The St. Johns softball team returns to action tomorrow, March 15, when they continue play at the Winthrop Invitational with a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
