Softball Sweeps Doubleheader Against Marist

In the first game, the Red Storm jumped out to an early lead scoring three runs in the first two innings. Senior Alesha Argeras (Warren, Ohio) continued her torrid hitting, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and hitting her fifth homerun of the season.
Senior Jessica Shepherd (Akron, Ohio) and sophomore Jillian Sandoval (Orange, Calif.) each went 2-for-3 for St. Johns. Shepherd had an RBI and a run scored, while Sandoval posted two RBI and a run scored. Senior Courtney Fitzgerald (Bellerose, N.Y.) (11-7) went the distance for the Red Storm, giving up two runs on five hits, and eight strikeouts.
In the second game, St. Johns used a three run second inning to overpower Marist before the game was called in the sixth inning due to darkness. Shepherd had another impressive game at the plate, going 3-for-3 with two RBI, two runs scored and knocking her first career homerun. Senior Jessica Cameron (Girard, Ohio) went 2-for-2 with and RBI and a run scored, while freshman Megan Oliver (Endicott, N.Y.) went 1-for-3 with a two-run double for St. Johns.
Sophomore Meghan Allman (San Diego, Calif.) picked up her second win of the season, pitching four innings, allowing one run on five hits, and two strikeouts. Freshman Melanie Lehman (Placerville, Calif.) came on in relief, pitching two innings, giving up one run on four hits and two strikeouts.
The softball team returns to action on Saturday, March 29, when they travel to Rutgers for a BIG EAST conference doubleheader beginning at noon.
