Svoboda Within Striking Distance at 2003 BIG EAST Championship

Notre Dame, Ind.-- St. Johns senior golfer Andrew Svoboda (Stamford, Conn.) is currently in third place, carding a two-round score of 147 at the first day of the 2003 BIG EAST Championship being played at Warren G.C. in Notre Dame, Ind. Svoboda is six shots behind the leader and heads into tomorrows final round in search of his second career BIG EAST title and eighth individual title of the 2002-03 season.
The Red Storm finished the day sixth overall, carding an overall score of 626.
< Junior Kyle Sleasman (Loudonville, N.Y) is in 21st at 18-over par 158, while sophomore Ian Middleton (British Columbia, Canada) is in 26th at 22-over par 162. Freshman Tom Travalja (Oradell, N.J.) finished the day in 28th at 24-over par 164, while junior John DeForest (Cottekill, N.Y.) is in 30th at 28-over par 168.
The Red Storm concludes play at the 2003 BIG EAST Championship tomorrow with a final round of 18 holes.
