Opening of Red Storm Men' Golf Season Delayed
9/18/2003 12:00:00 AM | Men's Golf
Jamaica, N.Y.?Hurricane Isabel has been wreaking havoc up and down the east coast causing delays and cancellations of numerous events. The St. John?s men?s golf team was scheduled to open its 2003 season at the James Madison Classic in Harrisburg, Va. this weekend but the event has been postponed due to inclement weather. The classic has been rescheduled for early next week, however due to a scheduling and class conflict the Red Storm golfers will not be participating.
St. John?s will look to a pair of seniors this season to lead them back to the NCAA Regional. Senior captain Kyle Sleasman (Loudonville, N.Y.) and John DeForest (Cottekill, N.Y.) will provide a strong one-two punch for the Red Storm. Sleasman finished the 2002-03 season with one top-five finish and four rounds of par or better, while DeForest averaged 9.2 strokes off-the-lead last season.
The St. John?s men?s golf team will open its season on Friday, September 25 when they host the first two rounds of The McLaughlin at Bethpage G.C. in Farmingdale, N.Y.
