St. John's Falls to Georgetown, 3-2

Queens, NY (November 6, 2004) - After leading in games 2-1, the St. John's volleyball team fell to Georgetown 3-2 (30-24, 28-30, 20-16, 30-25, 8-15) this afternoon at Alumni Hall. The Red Storm falls to 15-11 (1-6 BIG EAST), while the Hoyas improve to 14-12 (2-6 BIG EAST).
Out of the six BIG EAST losses, this was the Red Storm's fifth match that went to a decisive fifth game.
St. John's was led by outside hitter Jackie Ahlers who recorded 32 kills, hitting an impressive .421 percentage. Freshman LaToya Blunt notched 17 kills and five blocks while setter Lisa Tedder recorded 62 assists and 11 digs. Libero Nicole Colaluca added 26 digs for the Red Storm.
St. John's came out strong in game one, going on an early run led by Colaluca who served several straight points to lead 11-5. Although Georgetown quickly answered back, St. Johh's went on an impressive 12-8 run with kills by Ahlers and Alena Putintseva (9 kills) and took game one easily at 30-24.
In game two, the score was tied throughout the first several points with aggressive plays at the net from both teams. The Hoyas began to pull away with aggressive serving from setter Kate Fisher. Down 15-20, the Red Storm fought back to tie the game at 28 with kills by Yana Ruban, but Georgetown recorded two straight kills to steal game two, 30-28.
St. John's controlled the momentum of game three, taking a demanding lead throughout the first 20 points led by an outstanding defensive effort by Molly Roloff (8 digs). The Hoyas slowly fought back late in the game, but was not enough as the Red Storm took game three easily, 30-16.
Up 2-1 in games, the Red Storm scored several points with kills on the outside to take an early lead. Georgetown fought back again, and took the lead at point 10, which was fueled by kills from Patty Carroll who finished with 17. Trailing 28-19, the Red Storm went on a late game run with aggressive serving by Roloff, but the Hoyas forced the sideout and took game four, 30-25.
In game five, the momentum of the Hoyas was high with blocks at the net by Sara Albert (5 blocks) and aggressive jump serving by Jenny Weed which put them on top and take the game quickly, 15-8.
The Red Storm returns to action tomorrow, November 7 when they will host BIG EAST opponent Villanova at Alumni Hall. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
