Ahlers Named AVCA All-Northeast Region

Queens, NY (December 9, 2004) - Junior volleyball player Jackie Ahlers was named to the 2004 All-Northeast Regional team, it was announced today by the American Volleyball Coaches Association. This is the second year in a row Ahlers has received this prestigious award.
"Jackie has continued to take her play to the next level, especially during this past season against nationally ranked teams such as University of Florida, Florida A&M University and Ohio University" said Head Coach Joanne Persico-Smith. "We are all very proud of Jackie and look forward to another great season from her next fall."
For the season, the All-BIG EAST first team selection set the BIG EAST conference and St. John's record for kills in a single season with 646 total kills, a record she had originally broken in 2003. She is ranked 10th in the country and first in the BIG EAST in kills per game, averaging 5.38 and ranks first in the conference in total points. During the season Ahlers was named to five different All-Tournament teams, including being named the Most Valuable Player at the IPFW Invitational and the Colgate Classic. For her efforts over the course of the season, Ahlers was named BIG EAST player of the week once.
For her career, Ahlers continues to take her play to the next level. In 2004, Ahlers broke the school record for all-time most kills, totaling 1,766 with two more games left in the season. She also set the mark for kills by a freshman with 512 during her first season. She has a career hitting percentage of .290, good for third on the all-time list.
