NEW YORK (AP) - Daryll Hill scored 17 of his 22 points in the second half to lead short-handed St. John's to its first Big East Conference victory of the season, a 65-58 upset of Georgetown on Wednesday night.
The win snapped a three-game losing streak.
Kyle Cuffe had 15 points and Andre Stanley added 13 for the Red Storm (6-16, 1-10), who had only five scholarship players in the lineup against Georgetown. With the win, St. John's avoided becoming the third team to go winless during a Big East schedule. Providence was 0-6 in 1979-80, while Miami lost all 18 Big East games in 1993-94.
Brandon Bowman scored 20 points to lead the Hoyas (13-9, 4-7), who lost their third straight on a four-game road trip that concludes Saturday at Miami.
Trailing 28-24 at halftime, Georgetown opened the second half with a 6-2 run to tie it, capped by Bowman's dunk at 17:37. But St. John's went on a 16-7 run behind Hill's six points to take a 46-37 lead with 8:40 left.
The Hoyas closed to 52-47 on Gerald Riley's 3-pointer with 3:26 left.
Hill made a 3-pointer from the top of the key with 1:31 left and St. John's scored six unanswered points to gain its largest lead, 58-47, with 1:02 remaining.
