Women's Tennis Sweeps St. Bonaventure

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y.The St. John's women's tennis team had an impressive day on the courts and improved to 7-2 on the season with a 7-0 win over St. Bonaventure this afternoon in Olean, N.Y. St. John's did not drop a set on the day in singles action and won each doubles competition without dropping a single game.
The Red Storm started the day with a sweep in doubles play, as the #1 team of Hande Gorur (Istanbul, Turkey) and Lauren Leo (Staten Island, N.Y.) beat the Bonnies' team of Natalie Rumpel and Lindsey Marsh 8-0, and the #2 team of Allison Davidson (Cedar Falls, Iowa) and Lauren Lorenzetti (Northfield, N.J.) secured the point with an 8-0 win of their own. Kristina Bothova (Bratislava, Slovakia) and Jennifer Liantonio (West Hempstead, N.Y.) also swept their #3 doubles, beating the #3 team of Morgan Marsh and Kate Tkacik, before singles play began.
St. John's won all six singles matches in straight sets, kicked off by a 6-3, 6-2 victory over St. Bonaventure's Rumpel for Gorur at the #1 spot. Bothova's 6-0, 6-1 win secured the #2 spot before Davidson's 6-1, 6-2 win at #3 secured the win for St. John's. Playing in the #4 singles spot, Leo won 6-0, 6-0, the only Red Storm player to not drop a single game against the Bonnies. Liantonio and Lorenzetti won at the #5 and #6 spots, respectively, each by a 6-1, 6-2 final.
The Red Storm will return to action tomorrow morning when they take the court against BIG EAST rival Pittsburgh from Olean, N.Y.
