Younsoo Cho led the Red Storm with a pair of singles victories in Annapolis
ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The St. John's women's tennis team opened its 2026 fall slate this weekend at the Navy Blue & Gold Invitational.
The competition began on Friday at the University tennis courts in Annapolis, Md., and continued through Sunday afternoon. The Johnnies faced players from Navy, Villanova, George Washington, William & Mary and Howard.
Younsoo Cho led the way for the Red Storm, collecting a team-high two singles victories during her first tournament with the Johnnies. The transfer opened play with a thrilling three-set victory over Villanova's Jenna Stevens, taking the opening-set tiebreaker, 7-6 (11-9), before prevailing in the deciding frame, 11-9. Cho returned to the court on Saturday and defeated Navy's Manci Pal in straight sets, 7-6 (7-1), 7-5.
Nao Kojima also tallied a singles victory at the tournament. The senior cruised past William & Mary's Mia Kernagis on the opening day of competition, 6-3, 6-0. Kojima also teamed with Cho in doubles play, advancing to the consolation round.
Freshman Elena Milutinovic made her collegiate debut for the Red Storm, battling George Washington's Laura Damm in three sets before falling, 5-7, 6-1, 10-7. Milutinovic also competed alongside Villanova's Olivia Kutlova in doubles action.
The Red Storm will continue its fall season on Oct. 2-4 at the Fordham Four Invitational in the Bronx, N.Y.
