Baseball Doubleheaders, Tennis Matches Highlight Weekend Home Events

Jamaica, N.Y. - The St. John's spring athletics season is in full gear, and several Red Storm athletic teams are playing home events during the coming weekend.
The Red Storm women's tennis team, which is 10-5 overall and vying for a spot in the BIG EAST Tournament, will play its final home match of the season on Sunday, hosting Providence. The match is slated to begin at 10 a.m.
The St. John's baseball team, 21-13 overall and 9-4 in the BIG EAST, will host a pair of doubleheaders this weekend as they aim for their first appearance in the league championship tournament since 1999. On Friday, the Red Storm will host a doubleheader beginning at noon against Villanova. They close out the weekend on Sunday, hosting long-time rival Rutgers in a doubleheader slated to start at noon.
Other teams competing this weekend include softball, women's track and field, men's golf and men's tennis.
The softball team will play a non-league doubleheader at Hofstra on Thursday, beginning at 3:30 p.m. The Red Storm, 19-19 overall and 4-4 in the league, will travel for a crucial doubleheader at UConn on Saturday. First pitch is slated for noon.
The women's track and field team will compete one of the nation's most famous meets, the Penn Relays, in Philadelphia from Thursday thru Sunday.
The men's tennis, 11-9 overall, closes out its regular season on Friday, playing at Stony Brook at 3 p.m.
The men's golf team travels to Indiana this weekend for the BIG EAST Championship. The Red Storm will compete at the Warren Golf Course in South Bend on Saturday and Sunday.
