St. John's Schmid Named Offensive Player of the Week

Queens, NY - St. John's University senior forward Andre Schmid (Sacramento, CA) was named the BIG EAST Conference's Co-Offensive Player of the Week, it was announced by league officials today.
Schmid shares the award with Villanova senior forward John Lopuski.
St. John's went 1-1-1 in three games last week, posting a 1-0 win on Labor Day over 21st ranked Washington, lost at No. 3-ranked Maryland on Friday and played to a scoreless tie with 14th ranked Penn State on Sunday, despite playing a man-down for more than 30 minutes.
Schmid, who led the team in scoring as a sophomore before missing last season, scored two goals and had an assist during the week.
In the game against the Huskies on September 6, Schmid picked up a deflection off a shot from classmate Matt Groenwald (Mt. Prospect, IL) and scored from 12 yards out with about five minutes left in the game, securing a 1-0 win over St. John's.
On Friday night, Schmid assisted on St. John's first goal and scored the team's second during a loss at third-ranked Maryland.
Schmid leads St. John's (2-1-1 overall, 1-0-0 BIG EAST) in scoring through four games with two goals and two assists for six points.
St. John's returns to action this weekend, hosting league rival Seton Hall (3-1-1) at Belson Stadium on Friday, September 17 (8 p.m.) as part of the St. John's Nike Cup. Friday's first game features No. 4-ranked St. Louis and Colonial Athletic Association power George Mason.
On Saturday, September 18, the Red Storm will host St. Louis at 8 p.m. George Mason will play at Seton Hall on Saturday at 3 p.m.
