Queens, NY - Boston College scored early in the second half, and took advantage of an own goal, leading the Eagles to a 2-0 win over sixth-ranked St. John's on Sunday afternoon at in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts.
The loss ends a three-game unbeaten streak for the Red Storm, who are now 5-2-1 overall and 3-1-0 in the BIG EAST. Boston College improves to 6-1-0 overall and 3-1-0 in the league.
After 26 minutes of back-and-forth action, Boston College took a 1-0 lead. Eagles freshman forward Hadrien Toure served the ball into the box and it ricocheted off a St. John's defender, past Red Storm senior goalkeeper Bill Gaudette (Hummelstown, PA) at 26:42. It was first goal allowed by St. John's in more than 436 minutes.
Midway through the second half, the Eagles jumped out a 2-0 lead when Uri David-Magen scored his first goal of the season, beating Gaudette to the left at 54:39. Senior defender Guy Melamed had an assist.
The Red Storm out-shot Boston College, 10-9. Senior Andre Schmid (Sacramento, CA) took four shots and senior Simone Salinno (Lucera, Italy) added two. St. John's had eight corner kicks, limiting Boston College to only two.
St. John's returns to action on Friday, playing Hartwick in the first round of the Rutgers Classic. Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m.
