NEW YORK (AP) -- Daryll Hill scored 15 points in his return to the St. John's lineup to lead the Red Storm to a 64-50 victory over Charleston Southern on Saturday night.
Lamont Hamilton added 14 points for the Red Storm (4-1), who opened a 34-21 halftime lead and never trailed in the first ever meeting between the two schools.
Hamilton also grabbed eight rebounds, narrowly missing a third consecutive double-double, and dished out three assists. As a team, St. John's committed just 12 turnovers, its fewest of the season, led by five assists and just one turnover from point guard Eugene Lawrence. Lawrence, the team's assist leader, has recorded at least four assists in all five of St. John's games this season.
Hill returned after missing the Red Storm's loss to Hofstra on Tuesday night because of a bruised left knee and scored in double figures for the 50th time in his career. Hill has scored in double figures in 14 straight games and in 38 of his last 39.
Terrell Brown scored 16 points for the Buccaneers (4-2), and Dwayne Jackson added 14, 13 in the second half.
St. John's scored 12 straight points to take a 23-8 lead. Cedric Jackson made four free throws and Ricky Torres hit a pair of jumpers during the scoring spree.
Charleston rallied with a 14-5 run, cutting it to 49-44 on Brown's two free throws. Jackson scored eight points during the run.
Hill hit two consecutive jumpers to help St. John's close with a 15-6 run.
