St. John’s Welcomes Indiana Transfer Reed Bailey

6-foot-10 forward spent 2025-26 season with the Hoosiers and was a former All-Atlantic 10 First Team selection at Davidson
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's men's basketball program has added Reed Bailey to its 2026-27 roster, Head Coach Rick Pitino announced on Wednesday.
"Reed brings great experience," said Pitino. "He is someone who has played at a high level and has seen it all. He really understands how to play the game. He has good positional size and fits perfectly in our motion offense."
Bailey, a 6-foot-10 forward, averaged 8.3 points on a career-best 57.0% shooting from the floor to go along with 3.4 rebounds in 19.1 minutes per game for Indiana in 2025-26. Prior to his arrival in Bloomington, the Harvard, Mass., product spent three seasons with Davidson from 2022-25, where he started all 97 games and poured in 1,203 points. During his final season with the Wildcats, the league's second-leading scorer was tabbed the Atlantic 10's Most Improved Player and a First Team All-A-10 honoree. After graduating from Indiana in May, Bailey will be a graduate student with one year of eligibility of remaining.
Over 129 collegiate contests throughout his career, Bailey has averaged 11.4 points, 4.3 rebounds and shot 76.6% from the free throw line. The big man accumulated 451 makes from the charity stripe, which ranked 15th in NCAA Division I among active career leaders at the conclusion of the 2025-26 season.
This past season, Bailey played an integral role for Darian DeVries' first squad at Indiana. The big man ranked top-25 nationally among players listed at 6-foot-10 or taller with a team-high 112 made free throws, shooting at a 75.7% clip. The senior tallied 11 double-digit scoring efforts, three 20-plus point performances and pulled down five boards or more in 12 outings. On Jan. 31 at UCLA, Bailey exploded for a season-high 24 points, six rebounds and five assists in a double overtime triumph.
In 2024-25, Bailey became the first Davidson player to win the A-10's Most Improved Player Award and evolved into one of the most prolific scorers in the country. The forward averaged 18.8 points, 6.1 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game and ranked top-50 nationally in scoring average. The first team all-conference selection shot 47.7% from the floor, 41.5% from 3-point land and 76.8% from the free throw line. During his breakout junior campaign, Bailey exploded for 30 double-figure scoring outings, 14 20-point contests and reached the 30-point mark twice in a three-game span. He ranked 18th in NCAA Division I with 175 free throws made.
As a sophomore, Bailey started in all 32 games, logging 12.7 points, 5.6 rebounds, 1.4 assists per game and shot a career-high 80.4% clip from the charity stripe. In his inaugural collegiate season for Davidson, the rookie posted 5.5 points and 2.8 rebounds per game in 32 starts in 2022-23.
As a high schooler he attended Brewster Academy, where he was a three-year letterwinner and two-time captain. He participated in 2021 John Wall Holiday Invitational and played football for two seasons as a freshman and sophomore.
Bailey hails from a family with a long-standing tradition of excellence in collegiate athletics. His mother, Linda, played volleyball at Pittsburgh, while his father, Nathan, played basketball at Navy and Pitt. His sister, Brooke, was an All-ACC volleyball player at Clemson and also played at Ohio State. His sister Gabi was a two-time AVCA All-American in beach volleyball and made stops at LSU and College of Charleston, while beginning her career as an indoor player at Penn State. His brother, Evan, played hoops at the College of Charleston from 2014-18 and guided the Cougars to a 2018 CAA Championship.
