Norm Roberts
Head Coach, St. John's University
On the 12- point, 5-assist performance of guard Eugene Lawrence:
"Geno's done a good job for us and he did a good job taking care of the basketball tonight. He brought us a lot of energy, made some big shots and got people involved. Geno's getting better because he practices hard everyday."
On the team's game plan:
"I want our guys to move the basketball, especially when teams are packing it in. Teams know Lamont Hamilton and Aaron Spears are very good players inside so when the defense packs it in, we need to fan it out and move the ball two or three times quickly. That's going to open up driving lanes and open shots, and tonight, that is what we did."
On the one-game suspension of Daryll Hill:
"He recognized his mistake and he understands the process. Daryll knows what the rules are, he understands what the discipline is when you break one of those rules. He was dressed and ready to go on the bench and supported his teammates the way the he should have. He'll be ready to get back out there on Saturday."
On the team's next game at Virginia Tech:
"Virginia Tech is very big and very athletic. They can shoot the basketball. Last year they played a lot of one-three-one zone and this season they seem to be playing more man on man defense. It will be good for us to have to go somewhere else and play and have to deal with a different type of atmosphere. We're excited about the challenge."
Ricky Torres
Freshman, Guard
St. John's University
On his career-high 10 point performance against Stony Brook:
"Today, I just tried to play good defense and make plays. My first points came off of a steal so that helped me get into the game a little more and feel more comfortable. Eugene Lawrence and Cedric Jackson did a good job of penetrating the gaps and finding me and I just tried to complete the play."
Eugene Lawrence
Sophomore, Guard
St. John's University
On the balanced team effort:
"We can't depend on just one guy scoring all of our points. No matter who is in the lineup, we all have to work together as a team to get the win and tonight we got the job done."
Steve Pikiell
Head Coach, Stony Brook University
On St. John's performance tonight: "I have to give Coach Roberts and his staff credit. His guys played hard and with energy. The pushed us out and defensively they got into us and took us out of our sets. When we're able to run our sets we actually have gotten good looks in the last couple of games."
On Stony Brook's performance tonight:
"I watched the video tape from last year's game, and I feel that we are making good strides. We are a program that is rebuilding and we're trying to play a lot of freshmen. We had a good game plan going into the game. We made shots early and we wanted to make them shoot over us and I felt like we stuck through that for a while."
On Antwan Hardy:
"He's capable of scoring points on his own and can really shoot the basketball. He got us off to a good start in the beginning. I've been working hard to get him to play hard both defensively and offensively for the entire game."
