NEW YORK (AP) - Lamont Hamilton had 17 points and St. John's, playing without leading scorer Daryll Hill, beat Stony Brook 63-45 on Wednesday night to take a 7-0 all-time lead in the series.
Hill, a junior guard and preseason all-Big East selection, was suspended for the game for an undisclosed violation of team rules. He sat on the bench in street clothes.
"It was a one-game suspension," Red Storm coach Norm Roberts said after the game. "I found out about the offense this afternoon and sat down with him."
Roberts refused to provide details but when asked if the violation was similar to missing a team meeting that got Hill suspended for one game last season, he said. "It was on par with it."
Hill, who leads the Red Storm (5-1) in scoring at 15.3 points per game, missed the loss to Hofstra last week with a bruised left knee. Hill returned Saturday night against Charleston Southern and had 15 points in a 64-50 victory.
Eugene Lawrence had 12 points for the Red Storm, while freshman Ricky Torres added 10.
Antwan Hardy had 13 points for Seawolves (0-4), 10 in first half.
Torres had seven points in a 15-3 run that gave St. John's a 30-18 halftime lead.
A dunk by Tre Cunningham got Stony Brook within 37-28 with 11:42 to go, but St. John's went on a 13-2 run that was capped by a 3 by Torres that made it 50-30 with 7:41 to play.
