Queens, NY - Two former members of the St. John's University men's soccer team were selected this afternoon by the Columbus Crew in the 2005 Major League Soccer Supplemental Draft. Seniors Bill Gaudette (Hummelstown, PA) and Ryan Kelly (Marlton, NJ) were both picked in the first event, with Gaudette being selected with the ninth pick in the first round and Kelly following with the eighth pick in the third round (32nd overall).
Gaudette finished his four-year St. John's career with an overall record of 43-12-12, after an 11-4-4 mark in 2004. His career goals-against average of 0.68 ranks as the best in program history and he is third in games played (66) and second in minutes played (6,125). In 2004, Gaudette went 9-4-4 with eight shutouts, 61 saves and an 0.71 goals against average.
Kelly finished his St. John's career with nine goals and three assists for 21 points, including seven goals and 17 points during the 2003 season. Mainly a forward throughout most of his college career, Kelly moved to the defensive end during the 2004 season as a result of injuries to the Red Storm lineup. He compiled two goals, both game-winners, this past season.
