Postgame Notes: Georgetown 79, St. John's 65

- With the loss, St. John's falls to 7-6 overall, 0-2 in BIG EAST play and 50-36 in the all-time series against Georgetown.
- St. John's shot a season-best 59.6 percent from the floor, while Georgetown shot 58.1 percent and 57.1 percent (12-21) from 3-point range. The Hoyas' 12 three-point field goals and 58.1 percent shooting were both season-highs by a St. John's opponent.
- St. John's erased a nine-point halftime deficit with a 10-1 run to open the second half. The Red Storm was within 55-54 after an emphatic dunk by Ryan Williams with 11:44 remaining, but Georgetown answered with 16 unanswered points to blow open a tight game.
- Darrel Owens gave Georgetown the lead for good at 55-52 with a 3-point field goal at the 11:54 mark of the second half. Owens scored 10 points over the Hoyas' key 16-point second-half run and finished the game with 24 points. Owens hit on 9-of-12 field goal attempts, including 6-of-8 from 3-point range.
- Anthony Mason Jr. and Aaron Spears each had a team-high 14 points in the game. In four games at Madison Square Garden this season, Mason has scored in double figures three times and has averaged 12.5 points per game.
- Spears has now scored in double figures in three of his last five games and is averaging 14.5 points in two conference games. The junior transfer connected on 6-of-8 field goal attempts tonight and is now shooting a team-high 61.9 percent from the floor for the season.
- With 10 points, junior forward Lamont Hamilton scored in double figures for the team-high ninth time this season. Hamilton knocked down 4-of-8 field goal attempts and pulled down five rebounds (three offensive). The junior also hit on his lone 3-point field goal attempt, giving him four 3-pointers for the season - a new career-high.
- Cedric Jackson made his fourth straight start in the Red Storm backcourt and finished with four points, five assists, three rebounds and three steals in 34 minutes. Over that four-game span, Jackson has posted at least two steals and three assists in each game. The sophomore is averaging 2.8 steals per game in his last four and ranks second on the team with 22 steals on the season.
- Despite early foul trouble limiting Eugene Lawrence to 26 minutes, his fewest in eight games, the sophomore point guard scored nine points, grabbed three rebounds and dished out three assists. In his last eight games, Lawrence has averaged 10.8 points, 5.5 assists and 1.8 steals.
