BOX SCORE
Krystle Jalalian scored the game-winner in the 64th minute to lead St. John???s to a 1-0 victory over Cincinnati in BIG EAST women???s soccer action Sunday at Gettler Stadium.
Jalalian???s goal, her second of the year, was a beautiful soaring shot from 20 yards out on the left side of the field. Kelly McConnell won a ball in the midfield, dribbled around several Bearcat defenders on the left sideline and found Jalalian up the field. The junior forward gathered McConnell???s pass, turned toward goal and found the upper-right corner of the net past the outstretched hands of Bearcat goalkeeper Andrea Kaminski.
It was McConnell???s team-high fourth assist of the year and the second time in as many games that she has connected with Jalalian. On Friday night at Louisville, it was Jalalian assisting McConnell???s first goal of her career.
The Red Storm was out-shot in the game, 15-5, and its one shot on goal resulted in the game-winning goal.
Goalkeeper Jaime Beran recorded six saves in the shutout and got help from her defense as the Red Storm shut out its sixth opponent of the year. St. John???s also handed Cincinnati (5-4-2, 1-2-1) its first loss at Gettler Stadium in 2006.
With the win, St. John???s improved to 6-2-3 (2-1-2 BIG EAST) and earned three important points in the division standings. The Red Storm is back in action next weekend at Connecticut and Providence.
