Postgame Quotes: Hofstra 63, St. John's 51

St. John???s Head Coach Norm Roberts
On tonight???s game:
???Give Hofstra a lot of credit. They played well. They made big shots when they had to. I thought we did a good job defending them early. We got (Loren) Stokes somewhat out of the game but he made some big plays for them and (Antoine) Agudio made some big shots. We lost him (Antoine Agudio) in transition and he made us pay. We didn???t make any shots tonight. When the game was close, 36-35, we had a couple of transition possessions that didn???t go well for us. We will learn from this game and we will get better. We will just try to get ready for the BIG EAST.???
On the rest of the season:
???We are getting better. Daryll (Hill) is practicing more than he has. He is starting to get into a rhythm. Lamont (Hamilton) is obviously playing a lot better. Geno (Eugene Lawrence) is shooting the ball better. We just have to get everybody playing well at the same time. We just have to grow. We can???t get caught up on one or two games. The season is too long. You just have to keep focusing on getting better and not to make the same mistakes.???
On Lamont Hamilton:
???He did a good job on the glass. I thought we did a good job of getting him the ball and he is playing the way he is capable of playing.???
On Hofstra:
???They are good players. I don???t worry about who is mid major or who is high major. Ask Syracuse about Wichita State. There are good players everywhere. They have three guards who are tremendous players who make shots. They are very well coached. Tom does a very good job. We haven???t played our best ball, but they are a good team. I don???t get caught up on one team or one program. We just have to focus in on us and we will do that. One game is not going to take away from us winning seven in a row. We haven???t done that in a long time. I am just happy we did that and we to take this situation and come back from it. They are all learning experiences. We will learn from this experience and get better from it.???
Junior Guard Eugene Lawrence
On bouncing back:
???You have to get over it. It happened. We just have to come out for the BIG EAST and play harder, play smarter. It is a new season right now.???
On losing to Hofstra:
???I don???t like to lose period regardless of who it is. Hofstra hit some big shots. We didn???t rebound the ball.???
Lamont Hamilton
On tonight???s game:
???They came out and hit big shots. We didn???t execute.???
On bouncing back:
???We are just going to go back to practice and work harder. We are not going to put our heads down.???
Hofstra Head Coach Tom Pecora
On Playing St. John's:
"It was a very close game. Obviously, I have tremendous respect for St. John's. It is New York basketball and that is the way it should be. We are Hofstra basketball and we are just making our own history and I am okay with that. Now we will get ourselves locked into Colonial play and they can go get ready for BIG EAST play and we both move foward. I root for them every night except when they play us."
On Lamont Hamilton:
"He is a heck of a player. I definitely think that young man is going to play at the next level. He was inspired tonight. He really caused some problems for us tonight."
