QUEENS, N.Y. - Megan Oliver, Lauren Lupinetti and Kim Lerch were named to the BIG EAST's weekly honor roll. This is Lupinetti's second mention in the first four weeks of the season and the fourth consecutive week a St. John's softball player has been recognized by the conference.
Lupinetti continued her dominance at the plate last week, posting a .444 batting average with five runs, 16 hits, nine RBI and one home run. The three-run homer came in a game against No. 17 Nebraska at the Florida State Invitational. She crushed the ball over the left field fence and out of the park in her first at bat of the day.
The rookie was also named to Florida State's all-tournament team, representing the Red Storm on the 12 player roster. Lupinetti averaged a .500 at the plate over the six game tournament, driving in five runs with a double, a home run and two runs scored.
Third baseman Megan Oliver earned BIG EAST weekly honors for the first time in her career after finishing the week with a batting average of .371. Her eight run, 13 hit, three RBI performance secured her a spot on the list. Oliver also had two doubles on the week.
Rounding out the weekly honors for the Red Storm is junior Kim Lerch. Nobody was more deserving of the mention then the pitcher, who baffled two nationally ranked teams when she came in as relief against No. 17 Nebraska and No. 25 North Carolina. She did not give up an earned run again either team and finished the week with an ERA of 0.62. Lerch earned four wins and struck out 21 over 31 innings.
The Red Storm will look to build off of its successful spring break trip when it welcomes St. Francis in its first home game of the season on March 15 at 2 p.m.
