After a dominating performance against Quinnipiac on Sunday, March 19, freshman pitcher Scott Barnes was named to the College Baseball Foundation National Honor Roll on Tuesday, March 21. The 6-foot-3 lefthander struck out 14 Bobcat hitters and didn't allow an earned run in six innings on the way to his first career win.
Barnes allowed just five hits (four singles) and no earned runs and threw 72 of 108 pitches for strikes. He struck out at least two batters in each of his 6.0 innings of work, including striking out the side in the fourth and fifth innings. He also left runners in scoring position three times by striking out the last batter of an inning.
In 15.1 innings this season, the Chicopee, Mass., native has recorded 24 strikeouts and allowed opponents to hit just .230. He leads the team with 14.1 strikeouts per nine innings and a .230 opponent batting average. Barnes has shown better command to go along with his power arsenal, with his progress culminating in 14 strikeouts and just two walks against Quinnipiac.
