The Red Storm and the Crimson Tide will square off on Saturday at 9 p.m. on ESPN2
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – After sweeping the NCAA Tallahassee Regional, the St. John's baseball team will make its second appearance in an NCAA Super Regional on Friday against the seventh national-seed Alabama.
The Red Storm and Crimson Tide will square for the second time ever and first time since 1991. First pitch on Saturday is set for 9 p.m. and the contest will be nationally televised on ESPN2 with Dave Neal and Devon Travis on the call from Sewell-Thomas Stadium.
The best-of-three series continues on Sunday at 3 p.m. ET, followed by a winner-take-all game three, if necessary, on Monday at a time to be determined. Broadcast destinations for games two and three will be announced at a later date.
St. John's will enter Saturday's Super Regional matchup with a 36-24 record and an eight-game winning streak, tied with Little Rock for the nation's longest active stretch. The Red Storm and Trojans become the first two four seeds to advance to Super Regionals in the same season and the 11th and 12th all-time to qualify since the NCAA adopted the current format in 1999. The Johnnies' winning streak dates back to May 15, when they won the last two contests of the final regular season series against Butler to clinch a share of the program's 10th BIG EAST Regular Season Championship.
The Red Storm went 3-0 in Tallahassee to advance to Super Regionals, including a pair of upsets over hosts No. 10 Florida State. After last weekend's sweep, St. John's has gone 6-0 in the postseason, mounting comebacks in all six of those contests. St. John's joins SEC Tournament Champions Georgia (6-0) and Big 12 Tournament Champions Kansas (6-0) as the only programs in NCAA Division I to go undefeated during the entire postseason.
During the postseason, the Red Storm has outscored its opponents 58-28. The bats have been hot as the Johnnies are averaging 9.7 runs per game during that six-game span. A trio of Johnnies— Jayder Raifstanger (.500), Jon LeGrande (.435) and Dylan Fitzsimmons (.412)— are batting over .400 during postseason play. In the fourth and fifth innings, St. John's has outscored its opponents 32-4 in playoff action.
The Red Storm made history in game two of the Tallahassee Regional against Northern Illinois in a 21-8 victory. After trailing by five runs, St. John's recorded nine runs in the fourth inning, the program's most in an NCAA Tournament in at least 40 years. The 21 runs marked the second most in the program's NCAA Tournament history and the 13-run margin of victory tied for the highest total.
Adam Agresti was named the Tallahassee Regional's Most Outstanding Player after providing heroics in the Regional Final against No. 10 national-seed Florida State. The redshirt sophomore belted a go-ahead grand slam in the fifth inning, the first by a St. John's player in an NCAA Tournament game in at least two decades. The 429-foot blast over the center field wall cleared the bases to erase a 2-0 deficit and put the Red Storm in the lead, which it never relinquished. The catcher hit .273, logged a team-high 6 RBIs and earned five walks during the regional. He became the second player in St. John's history to be named the most outstanding player at a regional, joining Jeremy Baltz, who earned the honor in 2010 and 2012.
Led by the Tallahassee Regional's Most Outstanding Player in Agresti, five Johnnies were named to the All-Tournament, marking the second-most selections in program history. Agresti, Ayden Frey, Rob Mansour, LeGrande and Fitzsimmons were all tabbed to the Tallahassee Regional All-Tournament Team at their respective positions.
Alabama (40-19) enters the Super Regional after sweeping the Tuscaloosa Regional at home this past weekend. The Crimson Tide will make its first Super Regional since 2023 and will host for the first time since 2006. Alabama's regional victory marked the ninth in its program history.
After opening the Tuscaloosa Regional with a decisive 21-3 victory over Alabama State, The Tide outlasted USC Upstate, 7-5, to advance to the Regional Final. Alabama squared off with Oklahoma State in a thriller, as Brady Neal launched a go-ahead three-run homer off of former St. John's and current Cowboys pitcher Mario Pesca in the 11th inning to lift the Crimson Tide to a 9-7 victory.
Sunday's Regional Final win marked Alabama's 40th victory during the 2026 campaign and the first time the Crimson Tide has won 40 games in back-to-back seasons since 2005-06. The Crimson Tide is seeking its sixth College World Series appearance and first since 1999. Alabama finished as National Runners-Up twice in 1983 and 1997.
Alabama is 17-4 (.809) all-time when hosting the Regional or Super Regionals in Tuscaloosa since the current format was introduced in 2009. In the Super Regionals at home, the Crimson Tide dropped both contests to North Carolina in 2006 and swept LSU in a three-game series in 1999. Overall, Alabama is 26-6 at Thomas-Sewell Stadium.
The winner of the Tuscaloosa Super Regional will head to Omaha for the 2026 NCAA Men's College World Series. The Red Storm is seeking its first CWS berth in 46 years and the seventh in its program history. St. John's has made six College World Series appearances in 1949, 1960, 1966, 1968, 1978 and 1980. The Johnnies six CWS appearances rank second most among Northeast programs, trailing Maine (7).
