RED STORM TAKES ON FAIRLEIGH DICKINSON
• The St. John's softball team will welcome Fairleigh Dickinson in a 2 p.m. doubleheader at Red Storm Field.
• The two teams met for the first time in program history back in 2003. The Red Storm hosted the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights in a two game home series on April 16. St. John's shut out Fairleigh Dickinson's offense in the doubleheader, scoring a total of 17 runs in the 6-0 and 11-0 wins.
ST. JOHN'S SWEEPS YALE
• Two late seventh innings rallies led the Red Storm past the Yale Bulldogs in back to back wins, 3-2 and 7-6 (12).
• The play of freshmen Lauren Lupinetti and Roxann Struble fueled St. John's offense as both came up with big hits in clutch situations. Lupinetti drove in the winning run in the bottom of the seventh to secure game one. In the second game, Struble's two run double tied the game 6-6. Later in the 12th inning, her single to right field scored Lupinetti and gave St. John's the win.
• Kim Lerch pitched 14 innings over the two games, striking out five. After starting in game one and tossing four scoreless innings, she came back in game two to throw an additional ten. Lerch allowed only one earned run and posted a 0.50 ERA.
Roxann Struble EARNS BIG EAST HONORABLE MENTION
• Struble was named to the BIG EAST's honor roll for the week of March 20. It is the first time the rookie has gotten a mention and marks the fifth consecutive week a St. John's softball player has been recognized by the conference.
• Struble went 9-for-15 (.600) at the plate with nine hits, five RBI, two doubles and one triple in a 4-0 week for the Red Storm. In a 7-6 victory over Yale, she came up with two big hits, one to tie the game and send it into extra innings and one to drive in the winning run in bottom of the 12th.
• Overall, Struble is hitting .441 with 26 hits, seven runs and 15 RBI.
SCOUTING FAIRLEIGH DICKINSON
• After winning its first game of the season, the Knights got off to a rought start, losing its next 10 games. The team is 2-15 overall.
• Last time out for the Knights was at the Bash at the Beach Tournament, hosted by Deleware State. Fairleigh Dickinson played five games over three days.
• The team dropped a pair of games on Sunday, March 18 to close out the tournament. The Knights fell to St. Peter's (9-0) and Rutgers (11-6).
• Offensive highlights from the loss to Rutgers included a solo shot over the fence from Caitlyn Reuter and a two-run single from Jaime Colvin. Holly Jones smacked a double to knock in a run as well, but it wasn't enough as the Scarlet Knights prevailed. Ashley Buchanan took the loss on the mound.
• The Knights dropped the first game, 9-0, to St. Peter's in five innings.
